Collier County has officially moved the Livingston Road flyover over Immokalee Road from a long-discussed idea into design. On July 28, 2026, the Board of County Commissioners voted unanimously to award a $7,594,351.10 design contract to Fort Myers-based DRMP Inc. for a four-lane overpass that would carry Livingston Road above Immokalee Road.
That is the latest, most important update. Construction has not started. Relief at the intersection is still years away. But the project is now funded for engineering, and the county has a published sequence for how it fits with the coming I-75 work at Immokalee Road.
What the flyover will doThe concept is a grade separated overpass: Livingston Road goes north south over Immokalee Road. Through traffic on Livingston would cross above the intersection. Turning movements would stay at ground level, with redesigned turn lanes, signals, resurfacing, drainage, utilities, and landscaping refined during design. County officials have pointed to the Golden Gate Parkway / Airport Pulling Road overpass as the local example of the kind of relief they want: through traffic lifted out of the signal, so the intersection below can work better. The idea comes from the Immokalee Road Corridor Congestion Study, completed in August 2021.
That study recommended a four lane flyover at Livingston as one of the corridor’s major fixes. Immokalee Road is a primary east west arterial and a designated evacuation route, which is why backups here are more than a rush hour nuisance. Early modeling cited by county staff found the overpass could cut intersection wait times by about six minutes. That figure will be tested again as design and traffic analysis move forward.
Why construction cannot start tomorrowThe flyover is tied to FDOT’s planned diverging diamond interchange at I-75 and Immokalee Road. County staff said construction of the Livingston flyover would follow that interchange. FDOT has said the Immokalee DDI is expected to begin in early 2027 as part of the larger I-75 widening from Golden Gate Parkway toward Alico Road. That sequence matters. Building a county overpass in the same corridor while the interstate interchange is being rebuilt would stack two major construction zones on one of North Naples’ busiest roads. The county also plans to coordinate a Sun Trail segment in the FPL easement within the project limits.
Why this intersection became a priorityLivingston and Immokalee sits in the path of North Naples growth: residential development, school traffic, shopping, and seasonal volume all meet at one signal. Immokalee Road already carries coastal and inland traffic. When that light fails in season, the backup spreads west toward I-75 and east toward Logan Boulevard and beyond.Commissioners have also flagged a real risk: moving cars through this intersection faster could shift the queue farther west if downstream intersections are not improved at the same time. That is why the flyover is being described as part of a system, not a standalone cure. What this means for residents and buyersIf you live or shop near Livingston, Immokalee, Seed to Table, or the neighborhoods feeding that intersection, the flyover is a long term access story, not a 2026 construction story.
